Former Bolton defender Abdoulaye Faye celebrates his 37th birthday today.

Faye represented Wanderers between 2005 and 2007, scoring three goals in 72 appearances, before joining Newcastle United for a fee of around £2million.

Heidar Helguson

On this day, in 2006, Bolton moved up to 6th in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Fulham at the Reebok Stadium.

Heidar Helguson, who later went on to have a spell with Wanderers, opened the scoring in the 22nd minute but found the net at the wrong end as the hosts levelled the game on the stroke of half-time.

Kevin Nolan won the game for Sam Allardyce's side midway through the second period, as the Trotters ended a run of six games without a win.

Gudni Bergsson

On this day, in 1996, Bolton claimed only their second ever Premier League away win as they secured a 1-0 victory at Leeds United.

Gudni Bergsson scored the only goal of the game at Elland Road, as bottom-placed Wanderers moved to within two points of Queens Park Rangers.

On this day, in 1992, Bolton moved into the top-half of Division Three as a result of a 4-0 victory over Hartlepool United at Burnden Park.

Wanderers leapfrogged Pools in the table, as a brace from Andy Walker, as well as goals from Tony Kelly and Michael Brown, ended a run of four games without a win for Phil Neal's side.

Bolton would end the campaign in 13th position, leading to the departure of Neal - who was subsequently replaced by Bruce Rioch three weeks later.

David Felgate

Felgate had two separate spells with Wanderers, from 1978-1980 and 1987-1993, making a combined total of 300 appearances for the club.

2001

On this day, in 2001, Bolton were 2nd in Division One after coming from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against ten-man Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The two sides began the afternoon occupying the two automatic promotion places in the division, with Fulham holding a 12 point lead at the top.

Barry Hayles gave the home side a 42nd minute lead, but Per Frandsen levelled for Sam Allardyce's side seven minutes after the break.

Fulham were reduced to ten men when Luis Boa Morte was sent off in the final 10 minutes, but Wanderers couldn't make their man-advantage count as they were made to settle for a point.

Djorkaeff represented Wanderers between 2002 and 2004, scoring 20 goals in 81 appearances, before completing a move to Blackburn Rovers after his contract came to an end.

2006

On this day, in 2006, Bolton moved up to 6th in the Premier League with a thumping 4-1 victory over West Ham United at the Reebok Stadium.

The two sides went into the game level on points, but it was Wanderers who cruised to the win - with a first-half brace from Stelios Giannakopoulos and a stoppage time goal from Gary Speed sending them in 3-0 up at the break.

Teddy Sheringham pulled one back 11 minutes from time, but Henrik Pedersen sealed the win just 60 seconds later as Bolton picked up maximum points for only the second time in six outings.

Andy Booth

On this day, in 1998, Bolton were victorious in a five-goal thriller as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 in a Premiership fixture at the Reebok Stadium.

Wanderers fell behind when Andy Booth gave Wednesday a 26th minute lead, but goals either side of the break from Per Frandsen and Nathan Blake turned the game on its head. Peter Atherton equalised on the hour for the visitors, but it was Bolton who went on to claim the points.
Andy Booth, who netted 10 goals in that relegation campaign, beat Kevin Pressman from the penalty spot as Colin Todd's side claimed only their fifth win of the season - from 29 games.

Jay-Jay Okocha

On this day, in 2003, Bolton moved two points clear of the Premiership's relegation zone after a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Wanderers went ahead in the 50th minute, as Jay-Jay Okocha's cross-cum-shot from the byline somehow sneaked in at Thomas Sorensen's near post. Henrik Pedersen doubled the lead five minutes later, as Sam Allardyce's side gave themselves a huge boost in their attempts to escape relegation.

Bolton ended the campaign in 17th position, two points clear of the drop, while Sunderland joined West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United in the Football League the following season.

Kevin Davies

On this day, in 2006, Bolton occupied 7th place in the Premier League and all but condemned Sunderland to relegation with a 2-0 victory over the Black Cats at the Reebok Stadium.

Defeat for Sunderland left them 17 points from safety with eight games left to play - after picking up just 10 points from their 30 games.

Davies represented Wanderers between 1962 and 1966, scoring 74 goals in 170 appearances, before going on to represent clubs including Newcastle United, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Dennis Bergkamp vs Ivan Campo

On this day, in 2004, Bolton took Arsenal's 'invincibles' team to the limit - losing 2-1 to the Gunners at Highbury.

Wanderers were 2-0 down inside 24 minutes, as goals from Robert Pires and Dennis Bergkamp put Arsene Wenger's side in control. Their lead was reduced four minutes before the break, however, as Ivan Campo headed home from close range.

Stelios Giannakopoulos hit the crossbar in the second half, while Kevin Davies also headed wide from six yards, as Arsenal held on to extend their unbeaten start to the season to 29 games.
